Polar Bear Information

Polar bears are more and more emerging as threatened due to a myriad of issues consisting of industry projects, ice in their natural environment melting, as well as human aspect. By far the largest culprit is the modification in the natural world of the polar bear. Several life-threatening conditions are actually created for these cool weather bears when the ice melts. World-wide warming that is actually associated to industrialization as well as activities such as driving a car, burning coal, as well as more human activities creates the ice melting.
The Bear Basics
Polar bears are a substantial animals that make their homes on the frozen Arctic ocean. The bears will definitely spend the majority of their lives on the ice. Males can easily grow up to ten feet in duration and weigh in at over 500 kg! The bears are actually carnivores, meaning they consist largely on a diet made up of the meat of additional Arctic pets. At present there are actually estimated to be actually just 20-50,000 Arctic polar bears left in the wild. They are actually on the Endangered Species List.
Why They’re At Risk
The biggest hazard to the survival of the polar bear varieties is the noted warming of the Arctic sea which is leading to the melting of the ice these bears call home. Although the bears utilize the ice for breeding and relaxing as well, it’s vital element is to offer a cover for the bears as they hunt seals. Without sufficient ice, the bears are able to not expand a long way enough from land to hunt ample food to stay alive. The bears are turning into malnourished and lots of are dying of starvation. This dynamic is actually effecting female bears with cubs in a great amount generating lesser survival prices of the newer generations. Additional risks to polar bears include raised race ins with individuals due to the forced time spent on land, as well as spills, development and shipping operations reporting to oil in the Arctic.
Who Is actually Helping, and How
Principal contributors to the match to conserve the Arctic Polar Bear include the Coca-Cola Business as well as the World Wildlife Fund. Together these businesses are raising hard earned cash to research exactly what is actually inducing global climate change as well as performing by having governmental agencies to control greenhouse gasoline discharges. Other significant projects consist of energies to protect against unfavorable mortal interactions including poaching and remarkable travel and leisure and shielding vital environment spaces such as birthing dens.

Global warming is a big lie… as is the threat to polar bears.
I’m still cold so it’s not warm enough yet.
The problem polar bears face is thinning ice as their main food source is seals which they hunt by waiting near the breathing holes seals create, while polar bears are very good swimmers they are no match for seals in the water. The fact is that bear sizes are down this is a fact that deniers try to ignore. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/the-incredible-shrinking-polar-bear-1651315.html The ozone whole has nothing to do with the problem of global warming and the effect of smoking is all but nonexistent for a very simple reason most of the co2 is coming from a plant source (tobacco) and as more is continually grown it absorbs most of that co2 back again. Were car fuel and coal is being added to the atmosphere after 100s of millions of years underground and is a direct addition to atmospheric co2 levels.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob_oD1IsYbE I don’t think they need saving! Their pretty tough on their own!
yes but smokers should be the least of your concerns cars factories arosol cans and cleaning products is the major cause i wish more people would stop worrying and start doing somthing about it if you aint part of the solution you r part of the problem not being rude just blunt
What can the US do unless the Bears are in Alaska? There is nothing the US can do to protect the bears in Canada, but it sure does make me feel good and all warm and fuzzy!
I still have not found that peer reviewed science that states that THE SUN WARMS US as you demanded… But, I did find quite a number of articles that state that the SEA ICE HAS INCREASED further showing the stupidity of you and your chronies…. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2005/sea_ice.html http://www.motherjones.com/blue_marble_blog/archives/2008/01/6832_antarctic_sea_i.html http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/02/15/arctic-ice.html http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/02/so_polars_bears_arent_drowning.html http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/08/050819093118.htm Funny that many say that sea ice increases because of a lot of “HOT AIR” which is what your GLOBAL WARMING HOAX IS FULL OF.
I don’t hunt polar bears, nor do I care to hunt them, so it really doesn’t affect me. The guides and outfitters that sponsor hunts will be affected by the decision. I would be more interested with their opinion on this decision.
It seems odd to me–the polar bear population is doing fine, but maybe, sometime down the road, polar bears might be threatened. Personally, I doubt that it really comes down to a want to protect the polar bear, but rather it is the backdoor to forcing major CO2 restrictions. Edit: Well it is a good thing that Kempthorne put his foot down: “That is why I am taking administrative and regulatory action to make certain the ESA isn?t abused to make global warming policies.?
What are the effects of a polar bear’s extinction?
there wouldnt be any polar bears
well the whole delicate nature would shift so many prey means very little food between them, and so much prey means so many other predators having it easy and eating them until theirs not enough to support them! chaos at its worst btw penguins and polar bears live on the other side of the earth from each other in fact artic means with polar bear, and Antartica means without
hope i helped
-nature would become unbalanced, that’s for sure -more fish population -more penguins -more seals (because its their main food) well that’s about it…
Igloos don’t get eaten and human population rises.
what are the effects of polar bear extinction? what are the short term and long term effects of polar bear extinction? how will it effect the world economically, socially, politically, and culturally? what will happen to other animals?
This is a hard question
…This is truly a difficult question. The short term impacts and economical impacts is probably towards the Zoos. For enviromental effect it will damage the Food web in the artic very severely, depending on the importance of the species it will have a huge or small scale of impact in terms of enviroment.Socially…well the only thing I can think of is Animals Activist raging against the Government for doing nothing to save the Polar Bears.Culturally and Politically…this is unlikely to be honest….back to the food web topic. If the food web is damaged,it is likely that other animals will go extinct along with the Polar Bears and the animals Polar Bears hunt(Seals and fish) will over-populate and cause a negative impact on the enviroment.
Well polar bears are really cute, the media & environmentalists just use the polar bear as an example of what can occur because of your climate change, but many different animals, plants, etc, would be affected greatly by a climate change. They just choose one specific animal, so the public can digest it easier. If the polar bears were to become extinct, whatever they are predators do would overpopulate, there would still be other kinds of bears, just not the polar bears. But climate change as a whole would completely change the world. People would have to be evacuated from places where they are unable to live because of extreme temperatures, and little island nations would be completely wiped off the map.
Polar Bears in Antarctica?!?!?! Is this a good Idea? http://www.polarbearconservancy.org/Site/Programs.html The Polar Bear Conservancy’s plan is to relocate 3,000 polar bears from the Northern Arctic, where global climate change is melting native habitat, to the stable ice sheets of Antarctica. The Polar Bear Conservancy will begin relocation of the first Arctic polar bears to Antarctica on Earth Day, April 22, 2008. The relocation will be the initial step in a planned five-year program to migrate 3,000 polar bears from the Northern Arctic to the southern continent of Antarctica. Scientists say polar bears face near-certain extinction by 2020 as global climate change accelerates melting of their habitat in the Northern Arctic. Antarctica, in contrast, can be a viable home for the bears. Though experiencing melting of its own, the southernmost continent still has sufficient ice coverage to support the polar bear indefinitely in its traditional climate, and it has abundant food stocks, including penguins, seals, dolphins, and migratory Hmm… apparently this was an April Fool’s joke.
I don?t think so. You?re likely to interrupt the balance of nature in that area. It?s been done many times before. Even if the scientists think they have everything worked out it?s impossible to tell with nature. Next thing you?ll know is the polar bears have some type of bacteria in the hair that?s fatal to penguins. That?s only a lame example but there are so many possibilities that can?t be known ahead of time when introducing a new animal to a new environment.
Did you knew Polar Bears could die!! but you could make the diference today, just enter to this link and vote? We still have time to do something! In as few as 50 years, America’s polar bears could be gone. Photo credit: D. Crosbie, Canadian Ice Service New research by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) predicts dramatic declines in polar bear populations as global warming melts the Arctic sea ice these bears depend on for survival. It has never been so urgent to reduce global warming emissions and protect polar bears from extinction. In light of these findings, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has reopened a brief, two week comment period on its January 2007 proposal to list polar bears as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. No more delays or excuses – it’s time to protect polar bears and their melting homes. Sign our petition to submit your official public comment urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect polar bears from extinction! the site is: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/225344285?z00m=9955860 PLEASE PASS THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS!
I will help the polar bears! They’re so cute
First, I didn’t know Polar Bears were American. Perhaps they can vote, which would be very helpful because politicians would want to keep them alive. As much as we like the cute fellows, they are really vicious predators. I don’t see anyone staying up all night crying over sabre-tooth tigers, so why should I cry over polar bears?
Due to Global Warming? The animation in An Inconvenient Truth was hilarious. The polar bear was swimming and couldn’t find an ice chunk solid enough to support him. Most people in my class were sad and shocked. Me and my friend laughed our asses off.
i will help. i signed! this is a good idea, being that they only need about 2,000 more signatures to meet their goal. kudos to you…. and LONG LIVE ALL FORMS OF LIFE IN THE WORLD!…. good luck!
I will vote for the polar bears.
