Why Whales Matter

Whales are one of the most popular yet gentlest creatures in the marine ecosystem. In the past, different types of whales, from killer whales, humpback whales and Minke whales, were flourishing and migrating throughout the globe from the Pacific Ocean to the deep Atlantic. However, at present, the whale varieties have actually been threatened of extinction as a result of unlawful and inhumane tasks that is happening as we speak. Whales as well as additional varieties of fish, consisting of dolphins, have been greatly altered in a negative method due to human angling activities that have actually led to the continuous and gradual depletion of these beautiful marine species.
One country in specific that has actually been engaging in this inhumane and immoral task against nature is Japan. Large whale fishing vessels have actually been dispatched around the marines of Japan, primarily in the western Pacific Ocean, to hunt down innocent whales and collect their meat and other parts to be utilized for oil, fertilizer, perfume, shampoo, cleansing soap, gelatin, margarine and other items. Regardless of the usages it can bring, these living creatures should not have to pay their lives simply for this senseless reason.
Ocean Shepherd is an organization that expresses Japan is in violation of the IWC rules on all commercial whaling. They point out that the Oriental public does not support commercial whale hunting, but all the major political parties do. Whale meat supposedly caught for “research purposes” ends up in the famous Tsukiji fish market, Sea Shepherd points out. They examine this embezzlement of whale meat on a routine basis and try to eliminate whaling in the high marines as it is happening.
The illegal whale hunts have not stopped. More needs to be done to get rid of whaling before the animals is totally depleted. Marine Shepherd is dedicated to this fight. Visit Sea Shepherd to study more.

Dream about swimming with humpback whales? I had an aswesome dream last night that I was swimming in the ocean harmoneously, with my husband, and 2 humpback whales. It was so vivid and awesome. Any idea what it could mean? Also, I should mention, I love the ocean and I love whales! I live near the ocean, however in real life swimming in the open water like I was would scare me, but I wasn’t scared at all I was so happy! It was night time in the dream too.
The big point is what the whales represent to you. perhaps they are a caliber of harmony that you can share with your husband. Anyway, it is always nice to wake up happy
Why are humpback whales endangered and why don’t we save them? im the biggest fan of whales especially humpbacks so why do people treat them so cruely??? its just inhumaine
Humpbacks are endangered because we (in general) hunted them to near extinction. You obviously know that. We ARE doing things to save them, and in fact there are more humpback whales estimated in the wild now than in over 100 years. Well into the 10′s of thousands in the Pacific. The reason it’s so slow going is because it takes so long for a whale to carry a calf to term, raise it, and train it to survive on it’s own. Simple biology. We can only do so much. After that the species itself needs to do the work. There are no such things as captive breeding facilities for humpback whales. I couldn’t even imagine the artificial insemination program…
They just creep me out. I carry a baseball bat just in case I see one on the beach.
they are endangered the same as my wolves people hunted them to near extinction. Except they thought wolves were vermin and needed to die thankfully most of our species are protected from cruelty. and hunting If we help support the foundations that help them we can save them. I love every animal on earth and I DO put animals in front of humans because they actually treat earth with respect!
You are living in the past. Humpback whale are not endangered. Their populations are increasing. They are fully protected. So there is no need for “we” to do anything. Hunting for food may seem cruel to you. But staving people is more cruel. There is something very wrong with a person that puts an animal above a human, it is certainly NOT altruistic. Native peoples have the right to subsistence hunting. What kind of person would deny the Inuit their heritage? http://www.iucnredlist.org/search/details.php/13006/summ
Humpback and many other whales are fully protected and are making a comeback. The reason for their drastic decline was commercial whaling – which also destroyed the whale stocks for many native peoples who carried out low level whaling to survive. These days, nobody will starve without whaling and so there is no need for it to occur. It is cruel – because it takes a long time to kill the animal and many get away seriously injured. Also, there was no holds barred – mothers with young or who were pregnant were especially susceptible and so for one kill often more than one whale died in the process.
are the blue and humpback whales related to the gray whale? TELL TELL TELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Blue Whale is classified like this: Order: Cetacea Suborder: Mysticeti Family: Balaenopteridae Genus: Balaenoptera Species: B. musculus The Gray Whale is classified like this: Order: Cetacea Suborder: Mysticeti Family: Eschrichtiidae Genus: Eschrichtius Species: E. robustus So they are not very closely related, and probably diverged from a common ancestor at least 10 million years ago. The line of gray whales is one of the oldest surviving genuses. It’s akin to the relationship between a Koala and a Kangaroo. They both belong to the same family but differ greatly both genetically, behaviorly and with what niche the occupy in their ecosystem.
Is it against the law to swim with Humpback Whales in Hawai’i? I know that they are not to be approached within 100 yards but I’m curious as to if you can snorkel and watch them underwater from a safe distance.
Since your not allowed within a 100 yards, it will be difficult to see them snorkeling from that distance and every fall, approximately two-thirds of the North Pacific population migrate from the icy waters off Alaska to the warm protected waters around the main Hawaiian Islands to bear and raise their calves so it is really not that safe for you or the calves. Check them out from a distance and respect their endangered status. Best of Luck!
Im traveling in june to see humpback whales migrating. Is it better to go to New Zealand or WA?Thankyou? I am backpacking in Australia at the moment and i have always wanted to see humpback whales! I am planning to go in june to see their migration but I am not sure if I should go to New Zealand or Western Australia for this? If you have any recommendation for what company to go with or where to see them, any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
The NSW and Queensland coasts are also great for spotting humpbacks, and far more popular than WA. New Zealand also has sperm whale watching. Southern right whales can be seen in season in the Great Australian Bight while blue whale watching is done, in season, from Robe in South Australia. There are plenty of different companies offering whale watching trips. I suggest you spend some time with Google and compare prices, times and expectations. You might be able to fit a lot more into your trip.
Check out the East Coast. Humpbacks migrate up the coast around that time of the year. Daily sightseeing trips operate out of the Gold Coast, although a better option is Hervey Bay, a few hours north of Brisbane.
New Zealand is great for sperm whales, though it’s also possible to see humpbacks in certain parts. Overall, Australia is a better bet.
why are humpback whales threatened with extinction?
Because the Japanese seem to think that killing them is part of their long heritage. Its not, just an excuse to make money
because they are being hunted by poachers.
